In which we attend a lovely social event....

Darlings, I have a teeny bit of a hangover this morning, so I may not be as sparkling as you have come to expect of me, but you'll simply have to forgive me: Last night was Midge's birthday party at our very own Beacon Pub. She turned 28 or 45 or something like that.

Karaoke was in order, and as weaving figures offered toasts, Yours Truly took the stage and wowed the crowd with my version of the old Jack Jones classic "Wives & Lovers" - a song that still offers a cautionary tale for today's young brides.

I haven't sung Karaoke since the '40's or thereabouts, but I think I did well. I forgot about that high note, and sort of blew it, but that crowd didn't notice. Being a young crowd, they were simply in awe of my performing skills, and who can blame them? Today's music "scene" is dreadful and boorish. Where is today's Jackie Wilson or Mrs. Miller? I fear we may never see giants like that again. Damn the corporate entertainment conglomerate!

Speaking of Mrs. Miller, here's one of her classic performances. Now THAT'S Entertainment! Keep your Tiffanys or your Milli Vanilli's, or whatever the kids are listening to these days.
